Blaupunkt celebrates its 75th anniversary

Blaupunkt

• From quality seal to trademark

• How this traditional brand has adapted to the times

• It is time for a retrospective celebration at IFA 2013

Berlin / Hildesheim, 21. August 2013 – This year, the Blaupunkt Group is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its traditional “Blaupunkt” brand. In 1923, when radio was just getting started in Germany, a company called “Ideal” manufactured headphones with a special quality pledge. The “blue dot” as a mark of quality and performance quickly developed into a trademark and in 1938 also became the company name. Up to the beginning of 2009, the company was part of the Bosch Group for over six decades. Today Blaupunkt is an independent subsidiary of the Munich-based AURELIUS Group and is once again a consumer electrics company operating worldwide.

For many years, the Blaupunkt brand was closely linked to the development of the European automotive industry. Many cutting-edge developments such as the stereo car radio as a precursor to today’s sound systems or the first navigation device were developed by Blaupunkt. In addition to its mobile end devices, today the company stands for a broad range of high-quality products from the field of consumer electronics. The acquisition of the traditional brand by AURELIUS marked the launch of the “Blaupunkt Global Brand Community”. Today, selected partners produce and distribute product worlds from “mobile” to “home”, from “sound” to “video”, from headphones to subwoofers, from navigation devices to tablet PCs under the brand name with the “blue dot”. Just last year, the establishment of the companies “Blaupunkt Telematics” and “Blaupunkt Home Security and Care” laid the cornerstone for further cutting-edge fields in the world of electronics by Blaupunkt.

Blaupunkt is now once more represented in the key markets worldwide. “We are very proud about newly-gained splendour surrounding the Blaupunkt brand”, says Raimund Zündorf, Managing Director of the Blaupunkt Group. “Today we have an international presence in all the most important markets. In the United States, South America and Australia, we are starting out again with major partners. Products with the blue dot are once again being used and appreciated by sound and technology aficionados throughout the world.”

The headquarters of the Blaupunkt Group today is back to its roots, back in Berlin, and the trading business continues to be managed from Hildesheim. At the same time, with Blaupunkt Embedded Systems, the European development location of the Blaupunkt Group is being further expanded.

In China – the most important and largest market of the future – Blaupunkt has been represented since 2011 with a joint venture. Likewise, an additional joint venture is handling deliveries of Blaupunkt products to the Indian market and is naturally the first choice for the national automobile industry and leading OEM supplier for infotainment and sound solutions. From a newly-established production facility with approx. 500 employees in Malaysia, products are developed, manufactured and distributed for the entire Asia-Pacific region.

From 6 – 11 September, the trade public can experience the latest developments from Blaupunkt and partners of the “Blaupunkt Global Brand Community” live at the Blaupunkt Stand 111 in Hall 3.2 of the IFA trade show for consumer electronics and home appliance in Berlin. There will be a business lounge for business partners and customers to discuss new ideas, creative suggestions and future projects. “We look forward to you joining us as we raise our glasses to our 75-year success story, which would not have been possible without you”, says Raimund Zündorf.
