Manufacturers and broadcasters present the automobile facets of DAB+ at IAA 2013

DAB-LogoMobile World – Digital Future: While the first German DAB+ radio stations went on air in 2011 also the first DAB+ capable car audio devices were ready to bring ultimate information and entertainment on the road. Thanks to the dedicated work of broadcasters and the industry the new broadcasting format DAB+ is speeding up on the road to success. The CarMediaWorld special show brings state of the art products and service information around the automobile world of DAB+ to IAA 2013 in Hall 4.0 at Booth No. 23.

Sound perfection, virtually problem free reception, steadily increasing nationwide program versatility, and even more data service options make the new DAB+ standard without doubt one of the great technological achievements – particularly for in-car infotainment. Radio stations sympathize more than ever with the new DAB+ standard, and as a result their program variety is rapidly growing all over the country. Public broadcasters have almost fully digitalized their program services, private channels are about to change as well. Meantime the car infotainment industry is offering a broad range of DAB+ ready car radios as well as a huge selection of adapter solutions for DAB+ reception with existing radios. Leading manufacturers Kenwood and Pioneer present their DAB+ featuring head unit program at IAA. Car infotainment specialists Axion and Connects2 are presenting their plug & play adapter solutions for DAB+ retrofitting to existing radio head unit. CarMediaWorld exhibitor Mediamobile is introducing the first German national traffic and travel service on DAB+ digital radio, using the TPEG protocol. The DAB+ network used for the new services offers a broadcast capacity more than 400 times higher than existing RDS-TMC services in Germany. For motorists, this means richer and more accurate traffic information.

Alexander Klett, CEO of the European Mobile Media Association (EMMA) says: “DAB + will not only push the broadcasting program diversity, but will also give new impetus to the car infotainment market. The dimension in which the new technology will convince the consumer, however, depends not only on the fast-growing variety of programs and the selection of appropriate devices, but also on a common commitment of all providers when it comes to promoting the advantages of DAB+ and to seriously inform the consumer about the exciting, pleasurable and comfortable advantages of Digital Radio and its services.”

“DAB+ is following the success trend of the new smart car infotainment technologies. Particularly, cooperative efforts from manufacturers and their trade partners will boost this promising new technology. For the car media specialist the retrofitting of DAB+ capable radios is an attractive upgrade to their automotive infotainment technologies range and has a huge potential to significantly prosper within the next years”, says John Gulliver from Connects2, a leading specialist for car audio integration.

IAA visitors have the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information about the status quo and future perspectives of DAB+ and to interact with leading manufacturers.
